Jonathan Shar
Chief Executive Officer
Jonathan Shar is Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble Education (BNED), leading the company’s mission to support student success through innovative and accessible education solutions. Under his leadership, BNED has navigated a rapidly evolving higher education landscape by driving strategic growth, operational excellence, and enhanced value for students, partner institutions and shareholders. Since becoming CEO, Mr. Shar has accelerated the expansion of BNED’s First Day® program, setting new standards for affordability and access to course materials nationwide. He has also strengthened the company’s retail and digital operations, elevating the customer experience and deepening institutional partnerships through a client-focused approach that supports their highest-priority goals.
With an extensive background in education, digital content and media, Mr. Shar brings a track record of transformative leadership. Before becoming CEO, he served as Executive Vice President of BNED Retail and President of Barnes & Noble College, overseeing the company’s campus bookstore and e-commerce strategy. Prior to joining BNED, he held executive roles at Akademos, Barnes & Noble, Inc., CNNMoney and Time Inc., shaping growth and innovation across multiple industries. Mr. Shar holds a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Jason Snagusky
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Jason Snagusky serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Barnes & Noble Education and is a member of the company’s executive team. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s financial management, including financial planning and operations, reporting, accounting, treasury, tax, internal audit and investor relations. Mr. Snagusky joined the Company in 2007, working in various finance and treasury roles with increased levels of responsibility across the business. In his most recent role, he served as Senior Vice President, Treasurer, where he was responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and regulatory compliance, ensuring Barnes & Noble Education’s financial health and alignment with the company’s strategic goals. Mr. Snagusky also led the Loss Prevention & Procurement departments. Prior to Barnes & Noble Education, he held positions at NYSE Euronext, Inc. and Toys R Us, Inc. Mr. Snagusky holds a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from Lehigh University’s College of Business.
Stephen Culver
Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer
Stephen Culver serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer and oversees the company’s IT operations and strategic development. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble College in 2005, Stephen held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors. He owned and presided over an IT consulting company, which specialized in the retail and wholesale industries. As CIO of Giorgio Armani Corporation, he led the IT operations during the development and expansion of their North American operations.
Cynthia Origlio
Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer
Cynthia Origlio serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. In this role, Ms. Origlio oversees the overall management and operations of BNED’s human resources across the enterprise, including Barnes & Noble College and MBS. She is responsible for leading the human resources strategy, talent acquisition, talent development, diversity and inclusion, compensation, benefits, employee relations and HR operations for the Company. Ms. Origlio has more than 25 years of human resources experience. She first joined the Company in 1996, working in Benefits for Barnes & Noble College. In her most recent role, she served as Vice President, Total Rewards & Talent, and was responsible for talent acquisition, employee development and engagement, and organizational development efforts for BNED. Ms. Origlio earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
